REACH REGISTRATION FOR IRON AND IRON SUBSTANCES

Iron, Furnace SIEF

This is the home page of the Iron, Furnace SIEF [Einecs number 265-998-4 CAS number 65996-67-0].   Iron, Furnace is "the metallic substance produced in a blast furnace or direct reduction furnace which contains over 90% iron."   This description covers Pig Iron, Hot Briquetted Iron [HBI] and Direct Reduced Iron [DRI].

It was concluded that Iron [Einecs number 231-096-4] and Iron, Furnace [Einecs number 265-998-4] can be considered as the same substance for the purposes of REACH and that therefore the two SIEF's should be combined as Iron [Einecs number 231-096-4 CAS number 7439-89-6].   Iron will therefore cover elemental iron, iron produced in a blast furnace or direct reduction plant, iron powders and carbonyl iron.   Each form of iron will be considered individually for classification.   Click here to read the Iron Platform's Updated Statement on this issue in full.

ArcelorMittal. the nominated Lead Registrant for Iron, Furnace, is also the nominated Lead Registrant for Iron.   ArcelorMittal will be supported by the Iron Platform Technical Working Group in this work and SIEF members should contact us with any questions that they may have about this process.   Future information relating to both Iron and Iron, Furnace will be posted in the Iron SIEF Members area of this website.
